The old registers of Sint-Pieters-Rode are a case in point. Never microfilmed, no clappers made of them and finally disappeared in the 1960s. Lost forever . Anyone who had ancestors in Sint-Pieters-Rode could forget about it.
But after almost five years of intensive detective work, we have recovered most of the data from the old parish records.
Our reconstruction is based on extracta, indexes, transcribed registers, lists, photographs of the originals and, in part, on recovered original registers. A graphic overview:
In Sint-Pieters-Rode, the parish registers begin in 1574 !!! That is the oldest register in the Hageland. Baptisms from 1639 to 1671 are missing, as well as marriages and deaths from 1720 to 1777. No records of this period have yet been found. The deeds of the 19th century are complete.
All deeds have been neatly dissected, translated and typed into a database. In the printout of this database (the books), the deeds are arranged alphabetically. From Saint Pierre-Rode, the following books are available:
